Parents and Students for Great Schools is a coalition of leading grassroots and advocacy organizations—California ACORN, Californians for Justice, PICO California and Public Advocates—working to ensure that students and parents have a voice on education reform. The coalition works from two basic premises. First, every child in California deserves the opportunity to succeed in school. Second, California schools must respond to the needs and expectations of those most directly affected: parents and students.

California Parents and Students Voice Their Demands for Public Education
On September 25, 2007, Parents and Students for Great Schools released the first statewide survey capturing parent and student voices from low- and middle-income neighborhoods, articulating their priorities for public education reform. The new study, based on the responses of 5,600 adults and young people across California from San Diego to rural Colusa County, makes it clear that parents and students expect their elected officials to begin now to enact the funding and policy changes that will enable all students to obtain the quality education they need and deserve.
